SCUBA Refresher 4/16/2011

Before one of our club trip to a tropical destination, we try to make sure our gear is in good working order, and our SCUBA techniques fresh in our minds.  With the Cozumel trip coming up in about a month, it was good timing to jump into a pool and practice some SCUBA techniques.  Tom and Ginnie Reynolds volunteered their home and pool for the event, and instructor Mark Kampe guided the group refreshing their skills and augmenting their knowledge.  Dive Master John also helped in the pool sporting his new blue gator skin looking hood.
The day turned out to be a beautiful day, and the group of divers enjoyed the nice warm water in the pool.  Lori is just enjoying the water and didn't want to come out.
Tom shared his knowledge on the topic of underwater photography with Jimmy.

The girls say it was a success by their smiles.  Later Tom and Ginnie fired up the grill, and treated the group to a BBQ lunch.  Thanks to all that attended (about 13 of us?), and again thank you Mark, Tom, Ginnie, and John.

ACE wreck

Hey divers- Just a reminder that we'll have Rod Surratt & Hosam Elshenawi from Beach Cities Scuba at our meeting on Monday. They'll talk about local diving off Dana Point, and the ACE wreck, which we'll be diving on the 23rd. Some have asked if we can pay for the dive at the meeting, and yes you can! I never got bios from them, so I have info from their website: The Riviera is the only dive vessel located in the convenient Dana Point Harbor in South Orange County and is an exceptional way to experience Orange County’s local diving without the hassle of beach diving. The Riviera is focused on serving divers, snorkelers, underwater hunters, photographers and private charters. On the Riviera you will enjoy a 2 tank local dive trip exploring the reefs and kelp forests of San Clemente, Laguna Beach, Dana Point and Newport Beach. The Riviera is outfitted to accommodate 30 passengers, but we only take 14 divers to maximize your comfort! We certainly can't beat the price... If your dive club brings a minimum of 5 divers, we can give you each spot for $80. This goes for this trip as well as any other. Normal price is $99, so that is a good discount. If your divers wish to have nitrox on board, the cost is an additional $10 per tank, so $20 for nitrox on both dives. We need to know about this before hand. Once you have the minimum 5 divers, please phone us so we can set up payment and confirm the trip. After that, if you have more sign ups they can call us individually to sign up and get the $80 price. http://www.rivierayachtcharters.com/scuba-diving/ A little more on the wreck: http://www.rivierayachtcharters.com/news/ And, they do burials at sea, so bring those ashes that might still be lying around the house! (Sorry if that was in poor taste...) sb
